About Yacht Charters in the Whitsunday Islands
THE WHITSUNDAYS, The most popular charter yacht cruising grounds in Australia are within the Whitsundays Marine Park beside the sun-drenched coast of North Queensland. The Whitsundays offer some of the most sheltered waterways in the South Pacific for charter cruising and sailing. These islands are renowned for their lush rainforest, sandy deserted beaches, and spectacular fringing reefs. Clear, warm waters entice you to explore the superb coral kingdom and marine life beneath.
The Whitsundays offer something for everyone. Slip away to uninhabited islands for lazy days, or if you hear the dance floor calling, set sail for the bright lights of an island resort. Secluded anchorages are seldom more than thirty minutes apart and discovering them on a yacht charter is the answer to anybody's dream.
Climate
Lying in the tropics, and cooled by the tradewinds for most of the year, the Whitsundays have an excellent climate. Seasons tend to be dictated by school holidays rather than weather, so some of the best sailing can be found in the off-peak periods.
Summers (Dec- March) are warm and humid with frequent rain showers and winters (June- September) are said by many to be the perfect climate - warm by day and cool by night. The tradewinds usually blow slightly stronger from May to August. July is the coolest month, and January the warmest. Cyclones if they do occur are most common between February and March. Good anchorages are plentiful and varied. January - March is the 'wet' season March - May are the windiest months August - September are the driest months Late September - early November onwards the trade winds abate and some say this is the best cruising weather in the Whitsundays At any time of year, you can almost always be assured of having enough wind for a pleasant sail, with flat calm days occurring less than 5 per cent of the time.
